Dual Control Car Hire

What are dual controlled cars?

Dual controlled cars are fitted with additional pedals on the passenger side of a driving tuition car. This is done so that the driving instructor can stop the car in the event of a safety critical incident.

On a manual driving school car, dual controls consist of dual brake and clutch. On an automatic car there is only one dual control which is a brake pedal.

Can anyone hire a dual controlled car?

Yes. Normally the renter has to be 17 years and over with a clean current provisional driving licence, and must be supervised by someone over 23 years and over with a current clean full driving licence.

You should check with the dual control car hire company about any legalities!

NOTE: The dual control car hire companies below may only hire to driving instructors. However, there are some that do short-term dual control car hire for learner drivers.

As a driving school or driving instructor it is vitally important that you get the best dual controlled car hire at a competitive price.

DoDrive® Driving School asked our network of driving instructors which dual control hire companies they use, why they choose to use them, what dual controlled car they hired, and how much they paid to hire a dual controlled car. From this data we created our A-Z list of recommended dual control car hire companies.

If you have anything to add, then please contact us telling us which dual control car hire company you use, why you choose to use them, what car you hire from them, and how much you paid for car hire.
